Summer Institute 2020
Do you want to gain an insight into how technology is used in a variety of industries? Interested in putting into practice the tools and techniques used in industry? Summer Institute this year will be a virtual 1 week programme open to all university students from any degree, who have an interest in technology/digital.
During the programme students will work on creating a solution to a problem using the design sprint methodology and a range of supporting masterclasses. The whole programme will be run by a range of industry professionals at leading companies.Outcomes:
1) Students will gain hands on experience running a design sprint - the tools, techniques and processes used to innovate in industry
2) Students will gain insights into how technology is used across multiple companies
3) Students will work remotely in groups using a mixture of collaboration tools

During an intense 2 week period in July 2019, 16 students from 9 universities created a solution to a problem using the Design Sprint methodology and participated in a range of masterclasses. The programme was supported and led by a range of industry professionals and hosted by Finastra, IBM, UCL, Rise created by Barclays, QMUL, GSK, ViiV Healthcare and Salesforce.

During June-July 2018 the first cohort of Summer Institute students experienced insights into: technology services, financial services and pharmaceuticals. The programme had a range of practical workshops, both technical and soft skill based, alongside a series of insight and career talks. Students also worked on an industry problem statement in which they had to develop and present a solution to industry judges.
